Kumusta ka, igkasi ko Dulagnon? Suddenly, the words we’d gotten so used to saying have found deeper meaning, now that we do not get the chance to say them as often as we used. And so, it bears repeating—because you matter, and it is important that you know this—as we celebrate the 425th birthday of Dulag: how are you, my beloved Dulagnon? You who make Dulag what it is: our home. It is because of you that we adopted as the theme for this year’s celebration, “I am Dulag.”
Dulag is what it is because, time and again, generations of Dulagnons triumphed over adversity and made selfless sacrifices for the sake of our community. We are who we are because of our ancestors—and we honor them today. We honor, too, this generation: the Dulagnons of today who are, once again, called to be here for one another, and to live up to the Christian invitation of considering our neighbors as we would our families. And that is not without its challenges. Because, unlike in celebrations past, this year is not about the noise of merrymaking, but the silence and stillness of knowing that we are doing the best for each other, as though to say: I may be not be with you, but I am here for you.
This year’s best expression of our togetherness is in celebrating the meaning and spirit of what binds us as a community: our sense of fellow-feeling, pakikipagkapwa-tao. The best way that we can manifest our concern for others is by looking out for each other. Now, more than ever, we need to abide by the minimum health protocols, because with our best efforts now, we are laying the foundations for a better and healthier future for our children and their children. Dulag will remain a strong community, if each and every one of us remain to be healthy.
Tonight at 8:08pm, while you are in the comfort of your homes, in the company of your families, please take time to look outside and watch the fireworks, as our 45 barangays light up the night sky to greet Dulag a Happy 425th Birthday. Please take time to sing our Dulag Hymn—from your hearts, and with fervor and resolve that “I am Dulag,” and knowing that Dulag will be where we want to be because “I am willing to make Dulag healthy and great with my own contribution to keep everyone safe.”
As one family, gather together and pray for everyone’s success, good health, and best of wealth because truly, even if we are not at the Dulag Plaza celebrating as one community with the usual concert, we are in each other’s hearts, in each other’s prayers. After all, “We are Dulag” and no matter where we are and how we celebrate, Dulag will always be in our hearts and that is what truly matters most.
On behalf of your LGU-Dulag family and as your Municipal Mayor, I wish all of you a meaningful Dulag Day celebration with our families’ and communities’ welfare at heart. Today, we relive our past and honor those who have gone ahead,
we pray for our present that we be spared from Covid-19 and continue to live healthy, and we hope for our future as we aspire for our cherished dreams.
We are Dulag and, as one family, we will continue to build Dulag to greatness so that in the next 425 years when our grandchildren will look back, they will thank our generation that we stood together and sacrificed for one another to make Dulag stronger than ever. Amidst this pandemic, a united Dulag will show the world that we will prevail in whatever challenges that may come our way because we are together forever.
Happy 425th Birthday Dulag! An akon bungto nga natawhan! I am Dulag, We are Dulag and together we will be – Forever.
